Hickory Hill, the Broad Avenue Arts District, and Midtown North are just a few communities that have made great strides in reducing crime since the 2006 launch of multi-agency crime-fighting strategy Operation: Safe Community and the Memphis Police Department's (MPD) Blue Crush data-driven policing. Read the Memphis Flyer's full article "Bite Out of Crime" to learn more about the transformation taking place in these neighborhoods.

Recently the D.A.'s Mentoring-based Truancy Reduction Program was awarded a grant to further help reduce truancy in the Memphis City Schools. In partnership with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the Program seeks to engage qualified mentors from faith-based communities. To read the full story click HERE.

Hollywood/Springdale Community Meeting

During the community meeting, residents get an updated on the Drug Market Intervention program currently being implemented in the Hollywood/Springdale neighborhood to eliminate the drug market and transform the community.

CRIME STAT UPDATE

Below are the January - December 2010 crime trends provided by The University of Memphis Center for Community Criminology and Research in partnership with the Memphis Police Department and all Shelby County law enforcement agencies.

Making Memphis and Shelby County Safer.

City of Memphis Crime Update: January 2010 to December 2010

From January 2010 to the end of December 2010, Major Violent Crime was down 23.6% including a drop in murder by 40% and a drop in aggravated assault by 13.5% across the City of Memphis, when compared to the same time period in 2006.

Major Property Crime was down 26.2% including a drop in burglary by 21.4% and a drop in motor vehicle theft by 42.1% across the City of Memphis, when compared to the same time period in 2006.

Shelby County Crime Update: January 2010 to December 2010

From January 2010 to the end of December 2010, Major Violent Crime was down 22.8% including a drop in murder by 37.3% and a drop in aggravated assault by 12.9% across all jurisdictions of Shelby County, when compared to the same time period in 2006.

Major Property Crime was down 25.1% including a drop in burglary by 19.7% and a drop in motor vehicle theft by 41.2% across all jurisdictions of Shelby County, when compared to the same time period in 2006.
